I hope this message finds you and your families healthy and safe.
There have been no new positive tests for any members within CWA Local 1120.
Throughout the footprint of our local, phase reopening continues.
Verizon has notified CWA that it will be scaling back the Back Up Care that was extended to its Union employees during the pandemic. From July 20, 2020 to August 29, 2020 each employee will be limited to utilizing 120 per week for that benefit. Starting August 30, 2020 each employee will limited to 80 hours annually for that benefit. Verizon has also has informed CWA of their intention to roll out a Health Certification for all employees due to Covid – 19. Details will be rolled out by Verizon.
This past week we witnessed again that Marist College is intent on moving forward with job eliminations. The latest display that Marist does not care about you was on display with them violating your contract by attempting to have members sign a Severance Agreement. As soon as CWA Local 1120 heard of this, we contacted Marist to get that rescinded. We continue to work on solutions without job eliminations. So far, Marist is not interested. We will hold Marist to the contract. Do not believe the rhetoric about pay cuts and cuts in benefits to CWA members that are protected in the contract, that senior officials send emails about. We appreciate the support from the Marist membership during this trying time.
Any rumors coming out of any units are just that, rumors. DO NOT BELIEVE ANYTHING YOU HEAR THAT DOESN’T COME FROM YOUR UNION!
Remember, if at any time you feel there is an unsafe condition that may put you at risk, report it to your Supervisor and contact a Steward or Business Agent immediately!
