Originally we were chartered by the National Union in 1961. Our jurisdiction was with New York Telephone Company - Plant department workers in Dutchess county, Orange county, Sullivan county, Ulster county, Columbia county and Greene county. Within those counties were specified towns and villages that were chartered to Local 1120.

Currently our Local members are a part of both the Public and Private Sectors including Telecommunications, Educational, Secretarial, Clerical, Professional, Technical, Water and Sewer treatment, Food Service, Highway, Mechanics, Police Dispatchers, News Reporters, Photographers, Editors, Call Center Representatives, and Drivers.

Our members are predominately located in New York state. There are a few employers that we represent members in various states across the country.

We are responsible for negotiating and administering 18 contracts. The bargaining units include: AdexComm, Corp, Arlington School District, Bricklayers Allied Craftsmen, Butler Utility Services, Camelot Communications, Cingular Wireless, LLC, Sodexho Inc.  CCS Network Solutions, Kar-Tel Systems of NY, Marist College, Museum Village, New Paltz Central Schools, Orange County Publications TH-R, PM Savvy, Town of Saugerties, Town of Woodstock, Vassar College, Verizon Plant, Verizon TRG, and the Village of Saugerties.

Each year our Local schedules four General membership meetings during the months of January, May, September, and Novermber. In addition we hold area meetings, Unit meetings, workplace meetings and special meetings as needed.

Our Local Officers and Stewards are elected every three years. All members in good standing are eligible to run for Union office.
