IMPORTANT UPDATE

A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

I hope this message finds you and your families healthy and safe. I was encouraged that many more members have signed up to our website for these updates with over 50 in the colleges alone.

We are fortunate that there have been no new cases of Covid-19 in Local 1120. All indications are that the 5 members that tested positive are either recovering well or have returned to work.

CWA continues to meet with Vassar College for unofficial dialogue with respect to their plans moving forward. Vassar has approached CWA and other Unions about possible financial relief for the College during this Pandemic. As some of you may know, SEIU has reached an agreement with Vassar on this issue. Keep in mind that SEIU did what they felt was in the best interest of their members. As always, if an agreement is reached, it will be in the best interest of the CWA members, not anyone else. You as members will have the opportunity to vote on any agreement that may be reached. I WANT TO STRESS THAT THERE IS NO AGREEMENT IN PLACE! CWA has made it clear that we will listen to all of their concerns but, initially we do not believe that Vassar has made a compelling case for the need for relief. During this time, CWA will be canvasing members to see who would be interested in taking a voluntary furlough. IT IS JUST A CANVAS TO GAUGE INTEREST FROM OUR MEMBERS. CWA realizes that furloughs may be advantageous to some members, so we want to see what your interest is, if any.

As of this date, Marist has not given us any indication of their plans moving forward, although we remain in constant communication with them.

At Verizon, business continues for our members under the same restrictions as when we started. Work from home, home garaging, bonus pay and customer premise restrictions continue to be in effect.

Any rumors coming out of any units are just that, rumors. DO NOT BELIEVE ANYTHING YOU HEAR THAT DOESN’T COME FROM YOUR UNION! 

Remember, if at any time you feel there is an unsafe condition that may put you at risk, report it to your Supervisor and contact a Steward or Business Agent immediately!
